Bec Kirby (b.1992, Blackpool, UK) is an artist working across painting and textile installation. Her practice is grounded in an interest in spatial composition, often considering how environments are arranged and experienced. Drawing particularly from interiors and architecture of the 1990s and early 2000s, she explores how spatial logics can translate into the composition of a painting, where the placement and orientation of elements influence harmony or unease within a space.
Alongside painting, Kirby maintains a textile practice, with the two disciplines sitting in close dialogue. Her methods often involve processes that break down materials and push them to their limits. Approaching painting as an ongoing process rather than a fixed outcome, surfaces are repeatedly worked into, undone, and reconfigured. Through this process the surface becomes a record of accumulated decisions, developing through a balance between intention and unpredictability.
