Bec Kirby (b.1992) is a British artist based in Manchester whose painting practice explores the uncanny qualities of domestic interiors, architecture, and everyday objects.
Kirby's paintings begin with seemingly ordinary interiors and domestic apparatuses that become subtly unsettling through the act of looking. With a focus on light, reflection, and spatial relationships, familiar spaces are rendered strange, inviting viewers to linger between familiarity and uncertainty. Empty interiors take on an unsettling presence, suggesting traces of human activity.
Her work frequently references post-war architecture and the design philosophies of modernism, exploring how shifts in perception transform ordinary spaces, allowing the everyday to become enigmatic.
