'A' Initial Decoration

BEC KIRBY x KATY BRETT

Part of this year's edition of decorations have been created in collaboration with designer Katy Brett, using her typeface Lochcarron. Katy spent her time in the small village of Lochcarron on the North-West coast of Scotland. In her project, she sought to unite land and type by developing site-specific letterforms inspired by the rock pools of Loch Carron. These forms were then administered as smit marks onto the village sheep, using a traditional technique for identifying flocks. As the sheep moved, their wool coats and positions naturally distorted and rearranged the letters, allowing the animals themselves to determine the evolving layout of the type.
